Deep Cleaning (Scaling and Root Planning)

When gingivitis is left untreated, it often times progresses to periodontal disease (gum disease) which can lead to bone loss around the teeth, deep pockets and loosening of teeth. When gum disease is detected early, it can be easily treated.  The first step of treating gum disease is by having deep cleaning (scaling and root planning) treatment.

Signs and symptoms of gum disease can include:

  • Red, inflamed gums
  • Bleeding while brushing or flossing
  • Receding gums
  • Loose or separating teeth
  • Presence of pus between gum and tooth
  • Bad breath
  • Sometimes pain. (Advanced stage)
